You’re meant for great things in your personal life and even in your career.
Carve a path straight to your goals with the help of a mentor who will motivate, coach, and shape you into the kind of person who’ll be ready to step into the greatness you aspire for!
But did you know that even finding a mentor has to be meant to be? I firmly believe that looking for a mentor is about finding the right fit.
Whether you’re running your own business or working as part of a company, having a mentor is very important.
With the exception of when you choose a bad mentor who turns out to be a selfish, fake guru, there are literally no bad sides to taking on a mentor.
- Having a mentor gives you something more to strive towards.
- It opens up new opportunities, possibilities, and learnings for you.
- You’re pushed beyond your comfort zone; that’s where growth happens!
- Your mentor automatically becomes your accountability partner who calls you out on your bad habits.
- It allows you to trace the footsteps of someone who’s been there and you can learn from their mistakes too.
- When you do fail, you’ve automatically got someone you can rely on to dust you off and set you straight.
So make sure you pick well because you will eventually be channeling your mentor as you grow with him/her.
I always say that in choosing a mentor, don’t just go for the smartest person in the room. Find one whom you share values with, someone who mirrors your ideals, and someone who lives the life you want to have.
If you don’t click, no amount of mentoring will ever get through to you and you can kiss your hopes of growth as a mentee goodbye.
Great mentors train, motivate, and inspire. But the best mentors are those that don’t put a ceiling on what you can achieve; even if it means allowing you to surpass them.
I can say I really lucked out in my mentor. Because he’s all that…and more.
Philip VanDusen isn’t just incredibly experienced in the line of work I aspire to grow in, he and I also share the same values, goals, and humor!

Dear Philip,
I can’t believe it’s only been 2 years since I’ve met you. As you said, it feels like more.
I’m lost for words on how much gratitude I feel towards you but allow me to try.
You have no idea how incredibly thankful I am to have crossed paths with you. You’ve become like a father to me! But dad jokes aside, thank you for fostering this mentor relationship where I get to share anything and everything under the sun; even personal matters and the crazy, goofy side of Jozelle that you now know so well and fully accept with your kind heart!
I learn something new and valuable every single coaching session we have and I’m still astonished how the learnings go beyond business as you reveal to me aspects about myself that even I don’t know about!
With the turbulence of the last year and everything that went down, I sometimes go into sessions feeling as if the weight of the world is on my shoulders but one conversation with you and I leave that Zoom meeting rejuvenated and ready to take on the world once more.
Being under your wing makes me feel as if I can do anything and everything I set my sights on. Witnessing how much you trust and believe in me energizes me to make every single dream of mine a reality.
I could go on but my heart is just exploding with joy and gratitude that I get to call you my mentor and friend.
Fortune smiled upon me when you finally took notice of me after spending so much time trying to engage with you on your videos haha! I knew then that I could learn so much from you but even I couldn’t have guessed that the positive impact your presence would have in my life would be this monumental.
I’m still in awe at the realization that it’s possible to have a mentor-client-best pal rolled into one person.
You are all the superlatives, P!
If I could become even half the brand expert and entrepreneur that you are, that would be enough to last me a lifetime.
To more wins, laughs, and everything else in between,
Jozelle
