“A single lie discovered is enough to create doubt in every truth expressed.”
I don’t understand why people lie. Does it satisfy them? Why do you need to make stories that aren’t true just to impress people? Why do you need to fool around if you don’t have bad intentions. I’ve been lied to before, many times. I got tired of forgiving and understanding people. No doubt, I am cynical. Albeit, don’t get me wrong, I still give a chance to every person I meet. But one mistake, one lie, then I’m done. I just don’t believe in second chances anymore. It will only lead to obsessive paranoia and in the end, you will be the bad person.
On topic, as to why people lie. They lie for the same reason everyone does. They don’t want you to know something, or they want you to know them as something else. For them, to lie, the pros of lying outweigh the potential cons, at least for them. Someone who is naturally a kind person is not one to show it off. Those who wish to achieve greatness yet fail to do so, or are only in progress of achieving it, were who you see trying to put up a front.
People lie because we are scared for the destructive and negative consequences to both the liar and the one being lied to. What we didn’t know is, every time we tell a lie, the thing that we fear grows stronger. Some lie because of their personal motives. The desire to lure someone, to get something from them, that they cannot get if they’d be truthful. Others are probably brought by pride and insecurity. Often people will create fascinating, yet completely untrue stories to improve their image. People deceive others because we think it serves our purposes in some way. I guess there are different degrees of lying and a limit of acceptance. One lie can cause you everything. It kills all kinds of relationships. I don’t feel bad because people lie to me, I feel bad because I can’t believe them anymore, even if, they’re telling the truth. One thing is for sure, forgiving is easy, trusting again would be the hardest part.
